Brandman Centers for Senior Care, a subsidiary of the non-profit Los Angeles Jewish Home, operates a Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) for frail seniors. BCSC is located at 7150 Tampa Avenue, Reseda, CA 91335.

What are the qualifications to join BCSC?

BCSC enrolls seniors who are age 55 or older, who live in the service area, need a nursing home level-of-care as determined by the California Department of Health Care Services (CDHCS) Long-Term Care Division, and want to stay in the community. Participants must be able to live independently without jeopardizing the health and safety of themselves or others.

What is BCSC's service area?

BCSC is located on the Los Angeles Jewish Home campus at 7150 Tampa Avenue in Reseda. We serve seniors in Reseda and the Los Angeles County commu­nities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Encino, Granada Hills, Mission Hills, North Hills, Northridge, Panorama City, Porter Ranch, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Tarzana, Valley Village, Van Nuys, West Hills, Winnetka and Woodland Hills.

Who pays for services?

BCSC's costs are covered by Medi-Cal, Medi­care and private payment. A PACE participant's payment responsibility depends upon the individual's Medicare and Medi-Cal eligibility.

  • If eligible for Medicare and Medi-Cal, or for Medi-Cal only without a share of cost, a participant pays nothing to BCSC.
  • If eligible for Medi-Cal with a share of cost, the participant pays a monthly premium to BCSC, equal to the share of cost set by Medi-Cal rules.
  • If eligible for Medicare only, the participant pays a monthly fee equal to the Medi-Cal payment to BCSC for Medi-Cal eligible participants.
  • If not eligible for either Medicare and Medi-Cal, the participant pays a monthly fee equal to the Medi­care and Medi-Cal payments to BCSC for eligible participants.

How is BCSC licensed?

Nationally, PACE operates under approval of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In California, PACE also is licensed through the California Department of Health Care Services (CDHCS) Long-Term Care Division.

What are BCSC's hours?

Open five days a week (excluding holidays) year-round, the hours of the BCSC Center at Tampa Avenue are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. A participant's specific schedule depends on need and may include attending the Center from one to five days a week. Each morning and afternoon, specially equipped vans bring participants to and from the Center.

Who approves the care plan and how does this happen?

An Interdisciplinary Team of service providers from many fields or disciplines, who work directly with the participant on a regular basis, recommends, approves and manages the care plan. The Interdisciplinary Team of PACE staff includes the center manager, primary care physician, nurse, social worker, recreation therapist, occupational, physical and speech therapists, dietitian, personal care aides, and others who provide care.

Will BCSC provide bilingual staff for those participants with limited English proficiency?

Yes. We will accommodate participants' cultural and linguistic needs.

How are primary care physician visits scheduled?

Primary care physician appointments are scheduled at the Center on a regular basis and as needed.

Can a participant disenroll from BCSC at any time?

Yes. To disenroll — leave the program — a participant only needs to notify one of the BCSC staff of this desire. They will provide instructions about how to disenroll and assist with the process.
